I have just recently obtained a new job after a long time searching and thought i would do a tribute video about unemployment and as a farewell to the good ol’ days of lounging around watching telly.

The video has a selection of photos of the unemployed and from job centres as well as a few cartoons about job hunting.

It ends with a short clip of Rab C. Nesbitt landing a job at the jobcentre.

Now there is a man who knows all about work ! LOL

The song “Red red wine” is the original version by Tony Tribe who sings it much better than UB40.

For those too young to remember UB40 are named after the old unemployment form, the UB40.

UB40 - RED RED WINE(1983), Lyrics

Red, red wine goes to my head,
Makes me forget that I still need her so

Red, red wine, it’s up to you
All I can do I’ve done
Memories won’t go, memories won’t go

Life is fine every time,
Thoughts of you leave my head
I was wrong, now I find
Just one thing makes me forget

Red, red wine, stay close to me
Don’t let me be alone
It’s tearing apart my blue heart

Red red wine, you make me feel so fine,
You keep me rockin’ all of the time
Red red wine, you make me feel so grand,
I feel a million dollar when you’re just in my hand
Red red wine, you make me feel so sad,
Any time I see you go, it make me feel bad
Red red wine, you make me feel so fine,
Monkey back and ease up on the sweet deadline

Red red wine, you give me holy pahzing
Holy pahzing, you make me do my own thing
Red red wine, you give me not awful love
Your kind of lovin’ like a blessing from above
Red red wine, I loved you right from the start,
Right from the start, and with all of my heart
Red red wine in an eighties style
Red red wine in a modern beat style
Yeah

Give me a little time, let me clear out my mind
Give me a little time, let me clear out my mind
Give me red wine, the kind make me feel fine
You make me feel fine all of the time
Red red wine, you make me feel so fine
Monkey back and ease up on the sweet deadline
The line broke, the money get choked,
Bunbah, ganjapani, little rubber boat
Red red wine, I’m gonna hold on to you,
Hold on to you ’cause I know you love truth
Red red wine, I’m gonna love you till I die,
Love you till I die, and that’s no lie
Red red wine, can’t get your off my mind
Wherever you may be, I’ll surely find,
I’ll surely find. Make no fuss, just leave us

“RED RED WINE” - Released 1983. UB40, are a British reggae band formed in 1978 in Birmingham. Featuring the same line-up of 8 musicians from 1978-2008, the band placed more than 50 singles on the UK charts, and achieved considerable international success as well. Their #1 hits (which are all covers) include “Red Red Wine” (#1 US/UK/Canada/NZ/Holland), “Can’t Help Falling in Love” (#1 US/UK/Australia/Sweden/Holland), and “I Got You Babe” (#1 UK/Holland). The band members began as friends who knew each other from various colleges and schools across Birmingham. The name “UB40″ was selected in reference to a paper form issued by the UK government’s Department of Health and Social Security (DHSS) at the time of the band’s formation for claiming unemployment benefit. The designation UB40 stood for Unemployment Benefit, Form 40. Before any of them could play their instruments, Ali Campbell and Brian Travers travelled around Birmingham promoting the band, putting up UB40 posters. The band purchased its first instruments from Woodroffe’s Musical Instruments with £4,000 in compensation money that Campbell, who would become the lead singer, received after a bar fight during his 17th birthday celebration. Their first gig took place on February 9, 1979 at The Hare & Hounds Pub in Kings Heath, Birmingham for a friend’s birthday party. UB40 caught their first break when Chrissie Hynde noticed them at a pub and gave them an opportunity as a support act to her band, The Pretenders. UB40’s first single, “King”/”Food for Thought” was released on Graduate Records, a local independent label run by David Virr. It reached No. 4 on the UK Singles Chart. Their first album was titled Signing Off, as the band were signing off from or closing their claim on the unemployment benefit. It was recorded in a bedsit in Birmingham and was produced by Bob Lamb. Norman Hassan said of the recording: “if you stripped my track down, you could hear the birds in the background.” This is because his tracks were recorded outside in the garden. Signing Off was released on September 6, 1980, and entered the UK Albums Chart on October 2nd 1980. It reached as high as No. 2 in the UK and spent 72 weeks in total on the chart. Signing Off is now a Platinum album. Despite great success in the UK, UB40’s popularity in the United States was only established after they released Labour of Love, an album of cover songs, in 1983. The album reached No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 8 on the Billboard Top 200 in the US. The album featured the song, “Red Red Wine”, a cover version of a Neil Diamond song (in an arrangement similar to that of Tony Tribe’s version). Their most successful worldwide single release is the cover of the Elvis Presley ballad “(I Can’t Help) Falling In Love With You” which was the main title to the 1993 Sharon Stone movie Sliver and was a number one hit across Europe and in the U.S. UB40 live in Wellington, New Zealand in 2004.

Red, red wine
Go to my head
Make me forget that i
Still need her so

Red, red wine
It`s up to you
All I can do, i`ve done
But memories won`t go
No, memories won`t go

I`d have thought
That with time
Thoughts of her
Would leave my head
I was wrong
And I find
Just one thing makes me forget

Red, red wine
Stay close to me
Don`t let me be alone
It`s tearin` apart
My blue, blue heart

Red red wine you make me feel so fine
You keep me rocking all of the time

Red red wine you make me feel so grand
